Educational qualification
- 10th class Secondary School Examination (SSE) passing certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India, State Governments or Union Territories.
- The applicant must have studied the local language at least up to 10th class from a recognized board. Post-wise local language details are given in Annexure-III.
- Special provisions apply for engagements in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Sikkim with respect to local language requirements.

- Applicants will be shortlisted for appointment on the basis of system-generated merit list.
- The merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in 10th class secondary school examination which will be converted into percentage with an accuracy of 4 decimals.
- For applicants with only grades/marks, subject-wise marks will be calculated by applying a multiplication factor of 9.5.
- Where Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is provided, marks will be calculated by multiplying CGPA by 9.5.
- In case of equality among the applicants, priority will be decided on the basis of: Date of Birth (older in age), followed by category order: ST Trans-Female, ST Female, SC Trans-Female, SC Female, OBC Trans-Female, OBC Female, EWS Trans-Female, EWS Female, UR Trans-Female, UR Female, etc.
- Shortlisted candidates will be informed through SMS and email on the registered mobile number and email address.
- Physical verification of documents will be done by the Divisional/Unit Head of the Division/Unit where the post is notified.
- Upon successful verification, a system-generated ‘Provisional Engagement Offer’ will be issued immediately.
- Candidates will be required to complete pre-engagement formalities within 30 days from the date of offer of provisional engagement, including scheduled basic training of 3 days and arrangement for accommodation (for BPM posts).
- The final order of appointment will be issued after receiving the verification report from the issuing authorities and the preliminary report from the police authorities.
General information/instructions
- Only one registration is allowed per candidate. Multiple or duplicate registrations/applications are strictly prohibited.
- Candidates are not required to attach/upload any document other than recent photograph and signature with the application form.
- Applications submitted without complete data will be rejected.
- Applicants should enter all the details like name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name as per SSC (10th class) mark sheet.
- Applications with blurry or illegible photographs/signatures will be rejected.
- GDS are not regular employees of the Department/Central Government. Their conditions of service are governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- GDS has to work for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of five hours every day.
- GDS cannot be retained beyond the age of 65 years.
- A servant must have another source of income apart from the allowance given by the Government for adequate means of livelihood.
- Candidates selected as BPM will have to arrange accommodation for running the Branch Post Office at their own cost.
- The Department reserves the right to modify, cancel the notification or modify the number of posts at any time without assigning any reason.
- Candidates who have previously been dismissed/removed/compulsorily retired from Government service/Gramin Dak Sevak as punishment have been barred from applying.
- No person holding any elected office will be considered for appointment.
- The applicant selected as GDS will not be involved in any activity prejudicial to the business or interest of the Post Office/IPPB with any outside agency.
- No previous experience or service of any kind will be considered for selection.
- The Department will verify the authenticity of the Secondary Level Marksheet through API SETU Portal/Digi Locker when available online.

- The application process consists of two parts: (a) One Time Registration (OTR) and (b) Filling the online application
- Candidates must have their active email ID and mobile number for registration.
- Once registered, the same mobile number and email ID will not be allowed for further registration of any other applicant.
- Before one-time registration, keep ready: mobile number (to be verified via OTP), email ID (to be verified via OTP), and information regarding board and year of passing matriculation (10th) examination.
- For one-time registration, click on “Candidate Login/Register” button, then click on “New Candidate Registration”.
- After registration, a registration number will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.
- Log in using registration number and password to submit the application.
- Fill all the details including personal details, board/academic details, division selection and post preference in the online application form.
- Upload latest photograph (JPG/JPEG format, 30 KB to 100 KB, 320×400 pixels recommended) and signature (JPG/JPEG format, 20 KB to 100 KB, 300×120 pixels recommended).
- Preview the application before final submission.
- Pay the fee before final submission if applicable.
- Candidates can apply for one or more vacancies in a selected division only.
